Atascosa County and Wilson County
Atascosa County was named after the Atascosa River and formed in 1856. Atascosa County has a long history of being known as Cattle Country. Every year Poteet, Texas holds its Strawberry Festival in Atascosa County. Poteet is also the birth place of country music’s great George Strait.
Adjacent to Atascosa County sits Wilson County. Wilson County has a long history tied to Native American Indians who occupied the land long before it was settled in the 18th Century. In October Wilson County dedicates one weekend to celebrate the importance of peanut farming in Southwest Texas with its annual Peanut Festival. The Wilson County Courthouse has a large peanut in its lawn to recognize the peanut crop in the area.
There are two District Court Judges who serve in Atascosa, Wilson, Frio, Karnes and La Salle Counties.
