Comal County

Comal County is located northeast of Bexar County. The major city in Comal County is New Braunfels, Texas. Although originally inhabited by Native American Indians in the 17th Century, Comal County is well-known for its German settlement in the 1840’s. New Braunfels was formed when 6,000 German settled the area in 1845. The German influence in this area, which is still very much apparent today, brought religion and public schools as well as economic growth.

Although New Braunfels is a small community, every summer thousands of visitors flock to New Braunfels to go tubing down one of its several rivers or to cool at the Schlitterbahn water park. Comal County has four District Court judges and two county courts.
